American motocross' annual Independence Day tradition that is the Rockford Fosgate RedBud National brought the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship to its halfway point of the 2017 season. Following a return to the top step of the podium at the previous round, Monster Energy Kawasaki's Eli Tomac continued his run of momentum with his second 1-1 moto sweep of the season to claim his third overall victory and return to the top of the championship standings. In the 250 Class, points leader Zach Osborne defended his hold of the red plate by capturing his third win of the season to extend his already comfortable advantage in the championship.
